The Haiku You Know. Built for Covered Outdoors.
Aircraft-grade aluminum airfoils, a permanent-magnet motor built for quiet, efficient operation, and SenseME® automation—rated for covered patios and porches, not direct rain or coastal salt air.
Key Highlights
- Airflow: Moves enough air to keep a covered patio comfortable through still, humid afternoons—up to 17,369 CFM at 84 in. (cubic feet of air moved per minute, the standard measure of fan airflow).
- Sound: Stays under 35 dBA at maximum speed—quiet enough to keep a conversation going without raising your voice over it.
- Motor: A permanent-magnet design—the same reason it stays this quiet and this efficient even at 84 in., rather than trading one for the other.
- Weather rating: UL Damp listed and IPX2-rated—built for covered patios, porches, and sunrooms with full overhead protection. Not rated for direct rain or salt air.
- Automatic adjustment: Built-in temperature and motion sensors drive SenseME, which raises or lowers speed on its own as outdoor conditions change through the day.
- Running cost: Uses as little as 15.1 watts at its most efficient setting—low enough to run through long outdoor gatherings without a noticeable effect on an electric bill.
- Build: Three precision-balanced aluminum airfoils, hand-balanced and tested before shipping.
- Controls: App, voice (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant), and Apple HomeKit (via Matter) included; handheld remote included with every configuration.
- Included downrod: 12 in. downrod ships with every diameter; longer lengths available for higher installations.
- Warranty: Up to 3 years for damp-rated installations.
Product Overview
Haiku Outdoor uses the same three-airfoil, permanent-magnet motor design as Haiku Indoor, in aircraft-grade aluminum, hand-balanced and tested to the same standard. The difference is environmental: it's built and rated to run in covered outdoor spaces rather than enclosed rooms.
Who It's For
Porch ceilings, covered patios, sunrooms, and sheltered terraces—anywhere protected from direct rain but exposed to outdoor humidity and temperature swings. Not a fit for uncovered, direct-weather, or coastal installations; see Compatibility below.
Key Benefits in Practice
SenseME's sensors track outdoor temperature and occupancy the same way they do indoors, so a patio swinging from a cool morning to a hot afternoon doesn't need the fan reset by hand at each change. The UL Damp and IPX2 rating means ambient humidity and occasional splashing won't affect operation, though the fan still needs to stay clear of direct rain. It holds the same under-35-dBA sound level as the indoor model, and its efficiency—as little as 15.1 W—keeps it practical to run through long outdoor gatherings.
Tradeoffs and Limitations
Not rated for direct rain exposure or salt air. Chromatic Uplight® isn't available on damp-rated fans; LED downlight is available.

FAQs
Can this go somewhere it gets rained on directly?
No—Haiku Outdoor is protected from direct rain but exposed to ambient moisture only. Haiku L Outdoor (UL Wet rated) or Haiku Coastal are built for direct exposure.
Is it safe near the coast?
Not for regular salt-air exposure—Haiku Coastal is the model built for that environment.
Is the Chromatic Uplight available outdoors?
No—Chromatic Uplight is indoor-only. LED downlight is available for Haiku Outdoor.
Can I reverse the fan for winter?
Big Ass Fans doesn't recommend reversing it—run it at low speed instead to recirculate heat trapped at the ceiling.
How do I maintain it?
Once a year: check the safety cable, mounting hardware, and wiring connections, and dust the airfoils with a soft cloth (no solvents or chemical cleaners). Big Ass Fans recommends examining the ceiling fan suspension system at least once every two years.
